Are your tires ready?

Over the last year we have seen improvement on reducing run flat tire failures. This tells us that you are paying more attention to your tires and making sure they have the proper air pressure.  We appreciate your attention to this issue, and would like to give you more information to help keep your tires running in top condition through the Summer.

The biggest enemy of a tire is heat caused by under inflation.  Here are some things you need to know about tires that are under inflated:

When Tires are 20% under inflated they will cause a 2% minimum reduction in fuel economy.

Over 50% of roadside breakdowns are tire related with 90% of those caused by under inflation and slow leaks.

The right tire pressure along with routine tire checks can save all of us time and money on the road.  When you do your pre trip inspection, do you check to make sure the tires are round and black?

How many times do you thump your tires and check for wheel end heat?

Please take the opportunity each day to look closely at your tires.  Failure to inspect your tires can have disastrous results.

Check your tire pressure before you start driving for the day.  Do a walk around inspection and thump all the tires every time you stop for a break.  As you are thumping the tires, also take time to look at the lug nuts and place your hand on the axle to check for high heat.  If one axle is hotter than another, you may find a brake hanging up or a wheel bearing failing.

We understand you may do all of these things and still have a tire problem, however we will minimize the cost and down time by taking care of the problem early and not waiting until another driver tells you that you have a flat tire.

Before you go.. Be sure you know…

Our steer tire pressure is 100 psi

 Drive tire (dual)100 psi

Drive tire (single) 95 psi

Trailer tire 100 psi

If you have any questions about tires and tire safety, please feel free to come and talk with me, our door is always open.

We appreciate your hard work and efforts.
